They're doing it to honor him. It's very similar to people dressing up and Santa Claus.. most things you post, I agree with.. But you'll have to look into this exact event a little more.. this_is_amerikkka@leahpaige_23 let's all dress up as Hitler and honor him see how people like that! Not acceptable for any reason! #hellnah leahpaige_23It may be offensive to some, not knowing the history. But I doubt knowing the story behind it, you'd still think so. leahpaige_23@this_is_amerikkka that is absolutely not what this celebration is about. They're giving needy kids gifts in honor of this man. He is their Santa Claus.. look it up.. this_is_amerikkka@leahpaige_23 its blackface and it's unacceptable! Spain by the way is very racist! leahpaige_23Dude. I get that it looks fucked up, if they did that shit here I would fight them all. But like I said, those kids basically think they are dressing up as Santa.. But you think whatever. I appreciate people posting NON biased posts though. Fuck racism in any form.. But this tradition isn't that. The face paint is ignorant.. I get that.. But the tradition in itself.. really means well. mainemoorewrightSo in Spain, Santa is black? kong47teh@this_is_amerikkka Spain is very racist and maybe you should be posting about the real racism there because black face is considered racist for its use in entertainment as a means of portraying people of color in a negative light without actually employing the same people that are being mocked. This Spanish tradition is not Caucasians dressing up like people of color to reinforce harmful stereotypes like the blackface of racist comedians or fearmongers. They are honoring this person of color almost as a diety or idol by doing heroic acts of kindness for children while dressed up like the hero of this folklore. This is the opposite of what blackface has traditionally been used for in the U.S. 14thor@this_is_amerikkka Spain is very racist. Just look at their term Indios ahperro_yogiDamn Mexicans. mubesiw@this_is_amerikkka there is more to the world than American sensitivities. We dont all need to bow to what bugs you! It is a respectful tradition. And yes, the Spanish are racist. I lived in Madrid for 6 months with my wife who is Filipina. We were exposed to it. allenthomas1226@kong47teh that's juzt your opinion jiahualamLike all things, context is very important. If this were in the States, this would without question be racist. Our social and political systems dictate not only that norm but also that marginalized experience between white oppressor and colored oppressed. In a foreign country where nominally "white" people are rare and that did not experience 400 years of African enslavement, maybe it's different. jiahualam@jiahualam Also, in our culture black face is associated with enforcing negative racial stereotypes and further marginalizing minorities. It's a malignant act. In this case they're cosplaying as a cultural icon. It has a very different feel. annabelle_carthan@chitown_brandi_ danny.loljk@leahpaige_23 this is not a way to honor any kind of person, this is purely unacceptable for someone to literally paint their entire body black with red lips. This is black face and I'm pretty sure you know that, this type of tradishion your trying to vouch for is keeping black face negative stereotypes alive and looked at as okay when it's not. taz.richBOMB SPAIN.... YOU SEE HOW THEM THINGS ACT pro_rbg_bae_0.0Disgusting daunteburksExtremely racist!!!
